What I Said

Audio to text & beyond

A passing thought. A rambling note. Spoken, then written in the app you’re already in.

  1. Tap right ⌘

One key. The pill appears in front of the app you're in.

  2. Talk

The pill responds to your voice. Recognition runs here, on your Mac.

  3. Tap again ⌘ / Esc

Your clean text lands at the cursor. Esc discards the take.

Compatibility notes

The icons show familiar places to write; they are not a list of verified integrations. From compatibility checks and everyday use: Notes, TextEdit, Safari, Chrome, Terminal and Feishu appear in Tacit’s compatibility checks. ChatGPT, Claude and VS Code appear in use recorded on the developer’s Mac.

Support depends on the text field. Safari was checked in its address bar. Feishu was checked using paste, but its final text still needs a manual check. ChatGPT, Claude and VS Code are usage examples, without separate compatibility tests.

About the record

The dictation record keeps cleaned text, timing and counts, with the destination app when reported. It keeps no audio. Search and pin live in the history list. Older unpinned records can be compacted; pinned lines are protected. Clear unpinned history while keeping your pins.

Things people ask.

Does it work in every app?

Anywhere you can put a cursor on your Mac. Where the app allows, the text is written straight in; otherwise it is pasted and your clipboard is put back.

Do I need the internet?

Recognition, clean-up and writing run on your Mac. Cloud recognition is a separate switch and off by default; Usage Insight is a separate switch and on by default. That is not the same as an app that never reaches the network.

How do I start and stop?

Tap right ⌘ to start, tap again to finish. Esc discards — the opposite of Apple's dictation, where Esc keeps the text.

Can I mix Chinese and English?

Yes, in the same sentence, with no language switch.

What does the clean-up change?

Punctuation, casing, hard fillers, spoken commands, numbers and dates, your dictionary and snippets. It tidies the form; it never rewrites what you meant.

Where is my history?

On your Mac, grouped by day, and a line says where the text went — when the app reported it. Search it, pin it, clear it. There is no audio in it.

Is there a meeting notetaker?

In preview. The current product has AI Note documents, a live AI View and Markdown exports. The examples on this page use sample content; public availability is coming.

What about Windows and iPhone?

Windows is available now, for Windows 11 on x64. The iPhone keyboard is in development and not publicly available.
